Together Again!
On 12th January 2023 the Avon Occupational Safety and Health Group held our annual legal update. In line with popular demand we decided to hold the meeting in person knowing what a difference it makes to share a real physical space with our friends, members and visitors. The session was introduced by Graham Wailes of AOSH. Our two speakers for the event were Richard Voke (Acuity Law) and Phil Newton (Pinsent Mason LLP). Richard gave a detailed overview of a variety of events and prosecution that occurred during the previous year including insights into cases and prosecutions and fines and introduced the Protect Duty to the group. Phil discussed effects of Brexit on UK H&S legislation including the UKCA which will apply to products in place of CE marking, he also gave excellent argument for managing mental health at work and more insight into the Building Safety Act It was great to see so many people at the event, and as usual thank you to our speakers. If you would like to help others learn from your experiences in the world of H&S then please get in touch, new speakers and members are very welcome THATCHERS CIDER COMPANY LTD AT SANDFORD

On 13th December 2018, AOSH gave a warm welcome to David Harrison. David is a very inspiring individual providing motivational training through his company Sunrise Solutions Ltd. As H&S professionals it is possible for us to doubt our ability to fulfil such a challenging role, though we try our best to plough through those challenges. David inspired us to better manage our limitations and realise our potential. The aim of the session was to challenge our perception of what we as individuals, think we can do, against what we can actually do. To illustrate the point, A watercolour painting was handed around the group and we were all asked to replicate the painting. David showed us that by breaking the painting down into small parts, every person in the room was able to replicate the painting to a good standard. This took many of us by surprise. David instilled the view that if you think you can’t overcome a problem, then you won’t be able to, but, if you figure out the steps to overcoming the problem, then you have a chance of doing it to a high standard. So next time you are trying to implement H&S improvements remember to see the bigger picture, break it down and take it one step at a time. Thank you David for a fun an interesting experience |
